Al was born on April 26, 1927 in Tuckahoe, NY, to Pasquale andQuindalina (Consorte) Carapella.Al is predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth and Lilian, brothers John, Victor and Bernadino After graduating Tuckahoe High School, Al proudly served his country inWWII with theMil- itary Police in Germany. Upon returning from the war he went on to the University of Miami where he was a standout on the football and baseball teams. Hewas the first All American Football play- er at the University and earned many accolades. From 1951 to was a two-way ironman for the San Francisco 49ers.
After his career in theNFL, he earned Degree from Indiana University. He met his wife of over 60 years Reva June (Mendednhall) andmarried onDecember 27, 1959. Al coached football at the University of Vir- ginia and GeorgeWashingtonUniversity. He and Reva then settled back in Eastchester and raised their daughters, Cathy Carapella (Bob Quigley), Susan Kelly (Gregg) and Jennie Croke (Bob). Al worked for theMt.Vernon School District where he first was a teacher, then Division Principal and finally the Assistant Principal and Dean of Discipline.
Al was inducted into the Universi- ty of Sports Hall of Fame, Westchester County Sports Hall of Fame and Tuckahoe High School Hall of Fame. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and 6 grandchildren: Billy Quigley, Colleen, Daniel and Brendan Kelly andMaggie andHayley Croke. Al always considered himself very fortunate. His devotion to his family, friends and students was inspiring and a true testament to his character. He was born October 20, 1937 in the Bronx to Dominic and Margaret Conciatori. Hemarried his wife GloriaMurray onNovember 19, 1961 at our Lady of Pity Church. Egidio was a cement mason of Local 780 and then became a supervisor for Sparrow Construc- tion Company where he worked for 30 years. He retired in July 2007. He was a veteran who served in the US Army (1961-1967).
The simplest plea- sures in life brought great joy to Egidio.He enjoyed making wine, gardening, watching the Yankees, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.
